The secretary-general of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa (CCJA) Mr Laraba Moussa is in the country to assess Zimbabwe’s readiness to host the mega event slated for September next year in Victoria Falls.
The Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) won the bid to host the 2024 7th Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa (CCJA), an event that will be attended by at least 50 chief justices from Africa.
In line with that, the CCJA secretary-general Mr Moussa who is based in Algeria, arrived in Harare on Monday where he paid a courtesy visit to Chief Justice Luke Malaba and to assess Zimbabwe’s readiness to host the mega conference.
In an interview, Mr Moussa said the conference was an important continental event which will bring together all the high courts in Africa.
“We are here in respect of the preparations this conference. We met the chief justice and we heard from him his observations and remarks.
“We are comfortable with the preparations that are being done by Zimbabwe and we are also confident that this conference will be very successful. The main objective of the conference is to serve the citizen of Africa and the delivery of justice to the African people,” he said.
Secretary for Judicial Service Commission Mr Walter Chikwana said the conference was the largest in Africa and bringing together almost all the constitutional jurisdictions of over 50 countries.
“They will come together to discuss issues of human rights and constitutional law. This is the biggest gathering of constitutional jurisdictions in Africa that Zimbabwe will be hosting next year.
“The secretary general is coming to assess our state of preparedness and to help us in identifying critical areas that we need to attend to so that when the delegates come, we will be ready to host them and to make sure that their stay in Zimbabwe is as comfortable as possible,” he said.
