THE late Cde Mine Asima, who succumbed to stomach cancer at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on July 11 this year, has been declared a provincial hero and will be laid to rest in Manicaland on Tuesday.
He was 54. The announcement was made by Zanu-PF’s Secretary for Administration, Cde Obert Mpofu.
Cde Asima was born on February 5,1964 in Makoni District and did his primary education at Waterloo Primary School from 1971 to 1977.
Upon completion of his primary education, he decided to join the liberation struggle and cross into neighbouring Mozambique, where he received military training at Chibawawa Base in 1977 at the tender age of 15.
After being deployed to the front, Cde Asima operated in Chendambuya and Nyanga under the nom de guerre Cde Gondo Harishayi.
In 1980, he joined the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) in Nyanga.
After retirement, he remained an active member of Zanu-PF.
He also served as the provincial secretary for security in the war veterans association in Manicaland and was a key figure in strategising and implementing Zanu-PF party ideologies.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Demba, seven children and grandchildren. The Asima family thanked President Mnangagwa for conferring the liberation war hero status on Cde Asima.
