Zanu PF Central Committee member, Cde Delani Moyo has won the Insiza North primary election re-run after securing 1 781 votes.

The by-election was held following the death of Cde Farai Taruvinga, who was the Member of Parliament for the constituency since 2018.

Zanu PF Bulawayo Youth chairman, Cde Moses Langa got 941 while Cde Qhubani Mpofu came third with 676 votes.

The re-run came after the Zanu PF Politburo last week cited some irregularities during the first round.

The initial primary elections had been nullified after concerns were raised over a Harare delegation that allegedly campaigned for Cde Langa using party vehicles and 2023 Presidential campaign materials, a priviledge that was not extended to other candidates.

Zanu PF Matabeleland South provincial chairman, Cde Mangaliso Ndhlovu said Cde Moyo is now the party’s official candidate for the Insiza North seat.

“We conducted a re-run of the primary elections after the guidance we got from the Politburo. They felt that the first round of the elections had not met the minimum standards expected of a free and fair internal election.

“As a party, we take our electoral processes and democracy seriously. The Politburo always gives guidance and the re-run was conducted yesterday,” said Cde Ndhlovu.

“The people in the constituency appreciated that the concerns they had raised were taken on board, leading to the rerun. We are confident that we will win,” he said.

Meanwhile, the nomination court will sit tomorrow.

“The nomination court sits tomorrow, and we have to make sure that all the processes are done today. We are ready for our candidate to be registered tomorrow,” said Cde Ndlovu.
