Central Region goes on mid-season break

THE Central Region Soccer League will take a break following the completion of the first half of the season on Wednesday, with action set to resume on 1 August.

During the break, the league will hold its Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on 26 July in Kwekwe.
Gwanda side, Blanket Mine leads the race for promotion at the half way mark with 41 points, one more than Chapungu in second place.

West Nicholson are third on 38 points, closely followed by Kwekwe United, who are two points behind, while Gwanda Pirates complete the top five with 35 points.

Attention will shift from the promotion race as the top eight teams renew their rivalry in a different cup competition.
The GMI-Dream Inn Cup tournament which was announced at the beginning of the season is set to kick off.

Teams that finished in the top eight on the table at the halfway stage qualify to play in the cup tournament which means Blanket Mine, Chapungu, West Nicholson, Kwekwe United, Gwanda Pirates, Tongogara, Grain Tigers and Super Strikers will participate.

Central Region Soccer League chairperson Patrick Hill noted that the draw for the cup tournament will be held at the EGM.
“We have reached the half way stage of the season and deservedly all teams will have a break,” said Hill.

“There is going to be an EGM next week where the launch and draw of the cup will be held.
“As previously stated, the top eight teams at the half way mark are the teams that qualified to participate in this year’s edition.

“The venues for the matches and other things will be ironed out at the EGM.”
The cup competition is sponsored by Hardrock owner, Shepherd Chahwanda through GMI and Dream Inn.
