THE dates for the commencement of the Central Region Soccer League have been pushed ahead by a further two weeks as clubs are yet to complete player registration formalities.
Initially, the league was supposed to commence this coming weekend, on the 14th of March.
But with player registration being centralised this time around and handled by the Zifa national office, it means the league will only kick off in a fortnight.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Central Region executive members’ induction, regional chairperson Patrick Hill explained the reasons for the delay.
“The commencement of the league has been delayed by a week or two,” said Hill.
“This is as a result of a hiccup with the registration process, we want to make sure that every club has registered its players, this applies to all regions. The registration is being done by the Zifa office in Harare.”
The development gives clubs more time to fine-tune their squads ahead of the marathon race for promotion into the Premier Soccer League.
Meanwhile, Zifa vice president, Kenny Ndebele, who facilitated the induction, praised the central region for placing emphasis on youth development in their annual plan.
“We were discussing their plans for the season and also looking at their standing committees that will operate to assist in achieving their set objectives,” Ndebele said.
“The region has a strategic plan and they want to improve the standards of the sport and develop the game, particularly on youth development. This is good because it feeds into the national program that we have of targeting the youth.”
