The pick of the weekend fixtures will be the game pitting championship dark horses New Zimsteel against Beitbridge-based, Town United at Torwood today.
Since the start of the season both teams have posted impressive results with New Zimsteel, one of the three teams yet to taste defeat so far, managing to hold early pacesetters Strikers FC and seasoned campaigners Chapungu. This is testimony of the team’s pedigree to challenge for honours.
On the other hand Town United who started on a bright note seem to have taken off their foot from the accelerator as results have not been coming their way in the last two outings with the last a disappointing nil all draw at home against Jessie Mine in a match in which they were expected to collect maximum points.
United mentor, former Highlanders hotshot Tobias Mudyambanje, conceded that they had not been getting results and said his team would approach today’s game with caution.
“New Zimsteel has been playing well and so we are going to approach the game with caution.
“Of course we will be looking for an outright victory but a draw will be a good result for us,” said Mudyambanje whose side boasts of talent such as former Highlanders player Xolani Ncube.
Efforts to get comment from New Zimsteel officials were futile.
In other matches log leaders Tripple B, boosted by their 3-1 win over Chapungu last weekend, play host to struggling FC Platinum Under-19 who have lost their last two matches and Tshintsha Magiya are favourites to walk away with maximum points to consolidate the pole position.
High scoring sides, Chapungu and Willard Khumalo-coached FC Strikers will be looking at exerting pressure on the log leaders when they face Blanket Mine and Zialanda respectively.
