Maize cob vendors cleared from Harare CBD

The City of Harare has announced the removal of vendors selling maize cobs from the streets, citing that they were littering the streets and clogging drainage systems, which leads to flooding during heavy rains.

A city official said they also removed street children who were harassing residents.

“We have to take action,” he remarked. “We want to clean up our city and do everything possible to restore order.

“We cannot allow people to continue selling roasted maize in the Central Business District and vandalising our drainage systems.

“They are storing their maize cobs in our drainage systems and storm drains, which poses a health hazard to residents.

“We urge residents to refrain from buying from these street vendors, as the way they store their maize is dangerous,” he added.
