Chabata, Mawisire win Tarryn-Leigh De Souza Memorial Tennis Tourney

TANAKA Chabata and Takudzwa Mawisire were crowned Under-18 champions of the fifth edition of the Tarryn-Leigh De Souza Memorial Tennis Tournament that ended at Girls’ College yesterday. The three-day tournament started on Monday and ended yesterday in Bulawayo with four age groups, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-18s taking to the courts.

Ethan Sibanda and Claire Machisa clinched the Under-14 titles. Sibanda and Machisa who are Under-12s were moved to compete with older players in a move meant to give them better competition while Bukhosi Moyo and Sarah Zhou won the Under-12 category.

Johnson Chikurichawa the tournament director said that the tournament was also going to be used for national junior rankings.
“The tournament was a success and I am happy that the young players gave it their best shot for their national Rankings,” he said.

Boys: Bukhosi Moyo beat Lesedi Ragmin 7-6, 6-4.
Girls: Sarah Zhou beat Munashe Bera 6-3, 6-4.
Under 14
Boys: Ethan Sibanda beat Anesu Kwrirai 6-1, 6-2.
Girls: Claire Madisa beat Thabisile Dube 6-3, 6-2.
Under-18
Boys: Tanaka Chabata beat Bongani Sibanda 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Girls: Takudzwa Mawisire beat Nicole Chigwada 6-0, 6-4.
