Clr Fabian Man’ombe were suspended for unprocedurally awarding a US$400 000 water reticulation tender to Bruvoc Construction company.
Masvingo provincial administrator Mr Felix Chikovo yesterday confirmed the suspension of Councillor Jinga saying a disciplinary committee would soon be set up to investigate the two.
“The minister (Chombo) suspended the Gutu rural district chairman and another councillor (Man’ombe) for their alleged role in a water tender scam,” said Mr Chikovo.
“Investigations are currently under way and a disciplinary committee will soon be set up to preside over the pair’s hearing.’’
The Masvingo provincial administrator said Minister Chombo had warned Clr Jinga against corruption prior to his suspension.
Councillor Jinga could not be reached for comment.
The Gutu local authority has of late been hogging the limelight owing to rampant corruption that has reportedly bled the cash-strapped council to its knees.
The MDC-T, in a bid to save face, recently fired four councillors in Gutu for alleged corruption.
Many MDC-T run local authorities have become havens of deep-seated corruption by greedy and selfish councillors.
