REGIS CHAKABVA scored a match-winning 85 runs for Takashinga1 who beat Country Club by 103 runs (Duckworth-Lewis) at Country Club to go level on points at the top of the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Club first league table. Overcast conditions were favourable for bowling in the morning and Country Club promptly sent the Highfield side to bat hoping for an early collapse but the visitors held firmly at the top order to set a competitive 254 target in 46.5 overs.

“It was a bit difficult in that start because Country Club won the toss and they did not hesitate to send us to bat,” said Chakabva, who is the team skipper.

“If it was not for the strong opening partnership between (Keith) Kondo and (Emmanuel) Sharara it would have been a much more difficult job for me.”

Takashinga opener Sharara scored 65 while burly fast bowler Stanley Chioza was the peak of the bowlers for the hosts with four wickets for 69 runs in his allotted ten overs.

Rain had reduced the match but it was not a substantial factor as Country Club were all out for 163 run in 41 overs.

After six weeks Country Club are on the number one position because of a higher net run rate than Takashinga1, both teams have lost one match, won four times to sit on 21 points each.

Other results:
Old Hararians v Mashonaland Central   – OH won by 249 runs
Rainbow CC v Harare Sports Club – Whitewash (Rainbow CC forfeited)
