AFTER spending most of the 2024 Castle Lager Premiership season warming the bench at Manica Diamonds, former Zamba Primary School learner, Liberty Chakoroma, is eager to secure more playing time at reigning champions, Simba Bhora when the new top-flight league season commences.
For reasons unknown, Chakoroma made only six appearances for Manica Diamonds throughout the entire season, with just four starts and two substitute appearances.
This lack of playing time prompted the lanky midfielder, who began his career at Buffaloes FC, before spending four years there, and subsequently joining South African outfit, Free State Stars for a year, to seek a fresh start at Simba Bhora.
Speaking from his new base, Chakoroma expressed delight at the warm reception he has received from his new teammates and the technical staff at Simba Bhora during the club’s preseason preparations.
“I think I am happy here. Things are going according to plan.
‘‘All I am expecting is to get more game time, and show what I have in terms of my football talent.
‘‘The fans, fellow teammates, and the technical department here have been awesome. I feel at home,” said the soft-spoken midfielder.
Chakoroma, who spent four years at Ngezi Platinum Stars, one season at Chicken Inn, and three years at Manica Diamonds after returning home to Mutare, looked back at last season with pain and regret.
“I really do not want to talk about my experiences last season.
‘‘It was painful to spend much of the season on the bench when I thought I was giving my all during training.
“Anyway, that is part of the ups and downs in the game of football.
‘‘I just want to look ahead and ensure that I achieve big things with my new employers,” said Chakoroma.
However, Post Sport understands that Chakoroma, who will turn 31 at the end of this month, decided to move on, despite coach, Jairos Tapera wanting to keep him at Manica Diamonds for the 2025 season.
