GOALKEEPER Jetro Chakwizira believes that next season will be a successful one for him as the struggles he has gone through have made him a better goalkeeper.
He was part of the Zifa Southern Region Division One champions Arenel Movers’ squad for the first-half of the season on loan from Bulawayo Chiefs but never made a league appearance as the squad had more experienced goalkeepers.
The 21-year-old said he is ready to stand on his own and play football at the highest level.
“I have gone through a lot emotionally to the extent that I considered stopping playing football, I have had to change teams every now and then, trying to be where I would get game time as I believe that as a young player, the only way you could improve is through playing.
“I am ready now, I have worked under quality managers, I have worked with big players and goalkeepers most importantly.
I don’t think next season will be very difficult for me considering what I have gone through growing up as a goalkeeper,” said Chakwizira.
He was part of the Bulawayo Chiefs squad which won the Chibuku Super Cup in 2022 under Nilton Terroso and Thulani Sibanda. Since then he has had to move to different teams in the Division One league. He has played for Ciwu, Binga Pirates and Arenel Movers, the team which he was part of when they won the Independence Cup last year against Indlovu Iyanyathela at White City.
He also appreciated the role that has been played by Arenel’s goalkeepers’ coach Fungai Huni in keeping him believing that he is destined for greatness.
