Chaminuka eyes transfer window

DYNAMOS coach Saul Chaminuka has issued a stark warning: unless the club opens its wallet this transfer window, their nightmare season could spiral into relegation.

With just two wins from 17 matches, the Glamour Boys are languishing second from bottom in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table — an unthinkable position for one of Zimbabwe’s most storied football clubs.

“We’re not just participating for the sake of it. We’re definitely bringing in five players, which also means five will be leaving. At the moment, I’m not at liberty to disclose who’s coming in or going out, but very soon we’ll announce who has joined our ranks and who has departed,” said Chaminuka.

Chaminuka took over from Lloyd Chigowe just two months ago, inheriting a squad already teetering near the relegation zone. The former Warriors assistant coach quickly identified a lack of quality as the root cause of the team’s struggles — one of the key reasons they withdrew from the Caf Confederation Cup.

With the season now entering its second half, Chaminuka knows time is running out to turn things around.

“There’s no room for experiments now. I’m confident we’ll bring in one or two very good players, and that will strengthen both our depth and quality,” he said.

Veterans such as Allan Gahadzikwa are believed to be on his radar, though the coach remains tight-lipped. The transfer window opened on Tuesday and closes on July 31.

A major boost came this week when the club settled an $18  500 debt owed to former players Emmanuel Paga and Frederick Ansa-Botchway, lifting a Fifa transfer ban that had threatened to derail any hopes of new signings.

“The club’s ability to pay those players shows there is money available, and that’s crucial for recruitment. Players were probably thinking, ‘If Dynamos can’t pay their players, why would I want to go there?’ Now, I think we can start rebuilding confidence,” said Chaminuka.

As he prepares for a must-win clash against Herentals in a low-key Harare derby at Rufaro tomorrow, Chaminuka also confirmed the departure of utility player Nomore Chinyerere, who is set to join Triangle United.

The lanky defender was noticeably absent from training this week amid strong rumours he’s reuniting with his former coach Genesis Mangombe in the Lowveld.
