Chamisa snubs allies

THERE seems to be trouble in paradise in the Nelson Chamisa-led CCC as the beleaguered opposition leader now publicly embarrasses and chastises his former allies choosing to lean towards johnny-come-lately in the party.

Only that it was never paradise as Mr Chamisa has been latching from one crisis to another, most of which have his fingerprints all over them.

Mr Chamisa, who seemingly suffers from a narcissistic disorder that is fuelled by messianic delusions, has also taken to calling grown-up people in his party, his children while those who hold divergent views are often thrown on the hot coals as they are regarded as lost souls, unfit to be worthy his company.

In one video that has sparked fresh debate in his party and the opposition at large, Mr Chamisa coldly ignores the outstretched hand of Mr Murisi Zwizwai, and refuses to make eye contact with his secretary general Mr Charlton Hwende.

Both Mr Hwende and Mr Zwizwai are senior opposition officials, but like most people in CCC face an uncertain future as Mr Chamisa is now surrounding himself more with the youths and those who deify his personality.

Insiders said Mr Chamisa now only surrounds himself with his “poodles” and “lackeys” who rubberstamp everything that he says.

Just last week Mr Chamisa labelled his opponents as baboons in an irresponsible statement that triggered outrage on social media platforms.

“I can assure you that we will not announce what we are going to do to baboons that are troublesome. But I want to tell you that these baboons are not going to be troublesome anymore.”

The blooper-prone Mr Chamisa also referred to Mr Sikhala, who is in remand prison as his son, in another blooper that has caused consternation in the CCC, but only that none can question his statements and risk the sake.

“He is now the party, he is everything, remember we do not have structures, so there are no checks and balances in the party, anyone who dares challenge him will face the axe, and that is not the wise thing to do as we head towards elections,” said an insider.

Last month, the hand-picked spokesperson of CCC Advocate Fadzayi Mahere revealed that the unelected Mr Chamisa will this year be hand-picking his party candidates, a route that has caused sharp divisions in the party as it is open to abuse by the leader.

Some said Mr Chamisa’s decision to forego primary elections confirms his dictatorial tendencies and extinction of internal democracy within CCC.

Already some aspiring candidates have reportedly already imposed themselves in constituencies.

Last year, the party’s secretary-general Charlton Hwende and vice-president Prof. Welshman Ncube separately signed nomination court papers for their respective preferred candidate.

The party, which was formed last year, continues to leave a trail of undemocratic practices and has been accused of failing the test of candidate selection, which is a universal democratic practice.
