CHAMPIONS from the previous bodybuilding contests will be out to outdo each other at the Mr Bulawayo bodybuilding contest set for St Marys Cathedral Hall in Bulawayo on Saturday.
Defending champion Lovemore Manyama will be on a mission to retain his title against the reigning Mr Novice Brian Samundombe, the winner of the Police Commissioner’s contest Givemore Marufu, and John Domingo, who was recently crowned Mr Western Area in Bulawayo.
The search for the city’s strongest man will, ironically be used as a semi-final for a ticket to the Mr Iron Man contest set for Kadoma on 5 September.
Simon Gama, the four-time winner of the Mr Bulawayo title, described the event as potentially the best and the biggest clash ever in terms of degree of competitiveness, and that it would be difficult to predict the winner.
“It is the first contest to have title winning bodybuilders vying for the same title and that makes it the best edition of the contest. This is one competition you can’t predict the winner,” said Gama.
Registration fees are pegged at $5 per participant with the deadline being 4pm on Friday.
Participants are expected to vie for honours in three categories namely senior men, junior men (Under-21) and also a fitness section for ladies.
In the women’s category reigning Ms Western Area who also boast the Ms Novice Fitness and Figure accolade Shantel Bhatch will be the star attraction as she vies for a possible third bodybuilding title this year.
John Mhangwa, chairperson of the Bulawayo Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, said all was set for the tournament, adding that a huge number of bodybuilders was expected.
“Everything has been put in place and we have just secured the venue. This is an open tournament, so we are expecting a huge turnout in the number of participants,” said Mhangwa.
