CHAOS continues to haunt the Miss Heritage World pageant amid revelations some of the contestants that had come for the pageant, which failed to take place last weekend under unclear circumstances, have unceremoniously left the country.Organisers had announced that the pageant would be held this week but some of the contestants have chickened out of the contest.
The representatives of Guinea, Lesotho and Zambia left the country over the weekend after reportedly claiming that the organisers were not being professional in handling the event.
A total of 18 nations had sent representatives to the inaugural event that was scheduled for Harare International Conference Centre on Saturday.
On Monday, the organisers told journalists that the event had been moved to Friday at a venue still to be announced.
Models from Nigeria, Estonia and Russia have reportedly sent complaints to their respective embassies over the issue, with claims that the girls were worried about their security as the pageant hangs in balance.
“They have been holding meetings since morning here at a local hotel and I can tell that they are struggling. We only saw one prominent person coming in to try to assist them. Government should intervene. The girls will have a bad message when they get back to their countries,” said a hotel official yesterday.
However, pageant chairperson Tare Munzara denied allegations levelled against him.
“Three of the contestants left because of other commitments at home but they promised to come back. We had faced some financial challenges but we are working hard to make it. We will announce the new venue (of the pageant) soon,” he said.
