CHAPUNGU Queens’ determination and discipline paid off as they defeated Herentals Queens 1-0 in the semi-finals of the inaugural Heart Cup.

The winning goal was scored by Dorothy Nyoni in the first half, securing Chapungu’s spot in the final

Herentals’ luck had finally run out, despite their impressive comebacks in previous matches.

They had risen from the dead twice before, but Chapungu’s resilience proved too much for them.

This upset, combined with Black Mambas’ 2-1 victory over Harare City, has shaken up the tournament.

The favourites to make it to the finals, Herentals and Harare City, are now out of the running.

The semifinal match between Black Mambas and Harare City was a nail-biter, with Black Mambas emerging victorious.

The Heart Stadium was abuzz with excitement as the two teams clashed.

The electric atmosphere was fuelled by the presence of high-profile guests, including Permanent Secretary  forSports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Nicholas Moyo, ZIFA CEO Yvonne Manwa; Normalisation Committee member, Rosemary Mugadza, Warriors coach, Micheal Nees and Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume.

The Heart League boss Theresa Maguraushe expressed her gratitude, highlighting the growth and talent of women’s football in Zimbabwe.

“We are so grateful to Prophet Walter Magaya for this initiative, and this has helped many to realise the potential and talent we have in the country.

“Women’s football need more people like him who can inject life with sponsorship and tournaments like these.

The support from Government officials also shows that we are moving in the right direction,” said Maguraushe.

The stage is now set for the final showdown between Chapungu Queens and Black Mambas tomorrow.
