MAKANAKAISHE Charamba’s magnificent 2026 track and field season has earned him a place among the world’s elite when he takes part in the Ultimate World Challenge in Budapest, Hungary this weekend.
Charamba, Zimbabwe’s second fastest man in the 200m ever after Tapiwanashe Makarawu’s 19.84 seconds national record this season ran a personal best of 19.88.
No other Zimbabwean has run better times than these two US based sprinters who have even shone at the Olympics and World Championships.
Charamba, who finished a brilliant third in the 200m final of the Wanda Diamond League in Brussels, Belgium last weekend, in a time of 19.98 seconds capped a good year in which he had several third place finishes.
Nicknamed King Kong, the big sprinter’s 19.88 seconds is the 10th best of times run this year and goes into the event ranked sixth by World Athletics, which may favour him for a good lane.
Cynthia Phiri of the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe confirmed Charamba’s qualification for the year ending event.
He will not be the only athlete taking part from Zimbabwe.
Ashley Miller who has a time of 54.08 seconds in the 400m hurdles also qualified. Her best performance in the event is the 19th fastest run this year.
