UNITED States-based sprinter Makanakaishe Charamba continues to set the track ablaze as he set a new 200m national record on day one of the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, at the University of Kentucky.
Charamba ran 19.92 seconds in the 200m preliminaries to break the previous record of 19.93 seconds set by Tapiwanashe Makarawu last year in April.
The meet that got underway on Thursday is running until Saturday.
Charamba opened his outdoor season with a world-leading time of 19.99 seconds in the men’s 200m at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida last month.
And he continues to make positive strides on the track.
The athelete, who is now a senior at Auburn University, is one of the five Zimbabwean athletes that have so far qualified for the World Athletics Championships scheduled for September 13 to 21 in Tokyo, Japan.
