ZIMBABWE’S Makanakaishe Charamba continued with his exceptional showing on the international stage after securing another podium finish at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial – Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix on Tuesday.
Charamba crossed the finish line with a time of 20.09 seconds to finish second.
The race was won by Morocco’s Yassine Hssine in 19.92 seconds, setting a new national record for his country.
Nigeria’s Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike crossed the finish line in 20.18 seconds to complete the top three.
The Zimbabwean Olympic finalist has had an impressive season so far and will be hoping to continue on this path with just over a month before the World Athletics qualification window for track events, among others, opens.
He remains one of the hopefuls for the global meet alongside fellow Olympian Tapiwanashe Makarawu.
Other Zimbabwean sprinters that have also been doing well include Denzel Simusialela. He recently won the Ed Murphey Classic men’s 200m in a wind-assisted 19.84 seconds.
Makarawu placed second in the same race in 19.88 seconds.
Also in action at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial were Thandazani Ndhlovu and Ashley Miller.
Ndhlovu, competing in the men’s 400m, placed fourth with an impressive time of 44.64 seconds. It becomes his new personal best.
His previous personal best was 44.71 seconds, posted at the FNB Botswana Grand Prix in April.
Ndhlovu also registered another sub-45 last month when winning the Lucca International Meeting in 44.73 seconds in Italy.
Muzala Samukonga from Zambia won the race in 44.02 seconds. He was followed by Hungary’s Attila Molnar with a time of 44.51 seconds.
South Africa’s Zakithi Nene settled for third place in 44.57 seconds.
Miller finished fifth in the women’s 400m hurdles in 55.03 seconds.
Jasmine Jones of the United States emerged top in 52.91 seconds. Jamaica’s Rushell Clayton came second in 53.34 seconds, and Kemi Adekoya of Bahrain was third in 54.18 seconds.
The Gyulai Istvan Memorial is a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting.
It was the final Gold level meeting on this year’s Continental Tour calendar and featured some of the world’s best athletes.
