AFRICAN Union Boxing welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi’s success story has charmed his handlers at Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions in Zambia and they are now keen on roping in more Zimbabwean fighters into their stable.
Manyuchi, who is the ABU welterweight champion, is set to take a crack at the vacant World Boxing Council when he faces Ghana’s Patrick Allotey in Lusaka on March 15.

Now Manyuchi’s trainers, Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions, are interested in getting more Zimbabwean pugilists to join their yard and have since written to the local boxing board.

Zimbabwe Boxing Control Board secretary, Gilbert Munetsi, yesterday said the Zambians have undertaken to pay registration fees for their targets for this year.

“Oriental Boxing, through their operations director Chris Malunga, are keen to do business with Zimbabwean boxers following the impressive performances by Manyuchi who is under them.

“They have invited a number of Zimbabweans for undercards fights on the day Manyuchi will take on Allotey for WBC bout in Lusaka.
“Oriental are now helping the boxers in getting licences from us and should be depositing the money in our account soon so that we clear them properly.

“They want to take two other Zimbabwean boxers to train in Zambia along Manyuchi and so far they have indicated they want Wesley Macdade and Takudzwa Kuchocha,” said Munetsi. Munetsi said his board was hoping to meet on January 31 for a general meeting from which they are expected to set dates for their strategic planning workshop next month.

“We are going to meet as board on January 31 and then we should confirm the dates for the strategic workshop where we hope to invite resources persons from Zimbabwe Olympic Committee, the Sports Commission, promoters and the boxers.

“One of our aims is to help the capacity building for officials like judges and referees,” said Munetsi.
