CHARLESTONE Trust Primary School’s tennis players scooped nine medals at the Bulawayo mini tournament that was held recently at Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC).

The tournament was organised by Thesly Mufunda from Girls College and it was an individuals’ event. It featured different players from across the city.

Out of the nine medals scoped by the school, two were gold and the rest were silver medals and the coach, Raphael Chekure said they are impressed with the way their pupils fared in the tournament.

“Our kids played very well and they improved very much, I am impressed with their level of play,” said Chekure.

The learners who won the medals are Tiara Jeche (gold), Tawanda Chibhamu (gold), Patrick Zambara (silver), Ashton Mandiudza (silver), Jason Myathi (silver), Passion Chigumira (silver), Mbalenhle Maphosa (silver), and Aquilla Gobanayi (silver).

The tournament comes after the school had early this month organised an invitational event which featured four other institutions from around the city. The other schools were SOS, Emakhandeni, Petra Kids 2 and Josiah Chinamano.

Chekure, after the invitational tournament said their aim is to promote the sport and in Bulawayo schools. He said they also wish to develop tennis and give equal opportunity to children with potential in the game. – @brandon_malvin
