Newly formed Afro-fusion group Charllote and The Vibrant Band from Mutare is ready to raise the Manicaland flag high at the Chibuku Road to Fame competition finals.
Founded in January by Charllote Chibi, the group will compete next Saturday against bands from nine other provinces, including Panhimbe Crew from Masvingo, Boom Jazz from Mashonaland West, and The Outlaws from Harare Metropolitan.
The band comprises Charllote Chibi (founder and lead vocalist), Tendai Karaga (keyboardist), Delvin Zambuko (bass guitarist), Anotidaishe Gezana (drummer), Mazvita Sithole (backing vocalist), Tashinga Laimani (backing vocalist), and Promise Munjoma (percussionist).
Chibi shared the group’s excitement: “We’re overjoyed and humbled! Winning the Chibuku provincial competition validates our hard work and dedication to Afro-fusion music. This victory is not just for us but for our fans, friends, and community who have supported us. We’re grateful to represent Manicaland and showcase our talents on a larger scale.”
The group plans to release new music, with Chibi hinting at singles, an EP, and possibly a full-length album.
“We’re also looking forward to touring and performing at festivals, concerts, and community events throughout Manicaland, especially as the year-end approaches,” Chibi added.
With a focus on youth empowerment, Charllote and The Vibrant Band aim to establish workshops and mentorship programmes for underprivileged youth and family-friendly concerts that foster community engagement.
Chibi noted, “Our biggest plan is to record our first album, ‘Charllote’s Harmony’. We’re excited to bring Afro-fusion vibes to the national stage at the Chibuku finals.”
