Old Mutual Zimbabwe chief executive Mr Jonas Mushosho has challenged Chartered Accountants (CAs) to not cut corners but uphold high ethical standards in the current challenging economic environment.
Speaking at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ) certificate presentation last Friday, Mr Mushosho said CAs serve as captains of industry and play a very key role in defining and shaping the business world.
“I am aware of the challenges and expectations that accountants face in the dynamic business world we live in.
“Regardless of the changes, we are still called upon to adhere to our professional standards and ethics,” he said.
Mr Mushosho said other than upholding high ethical standards, CAs are also faced with situations where companies are closing and downsizing operations; situations which require astute leadership and sound financial management skills to keep the business buoyant.
He said for more than 100 years Chartered Accountants Rules of Professional Conduct have been refined to take into account the ever changing environment which they operate.
“Throughout all the changes, accountants have remained guided by five main values which include integrity, objectivity, and professional competence and due care, confidentiality and professional behaviour,” he said.
At the ceremony, graduands were conferred with certificates for passing Assessments of Professional Competence (APC) and the Public Practice Examination (PPE) which are the final qualifying examinations in the CA qualification.
ICAZ president Bothwell Njakeka said the Institute recorded impressive pass rates of 82 percent and 75 percent in the APC and PPE respectively. He said these are immensely pleasing pass rates.
“It is impressive that the students continue to raise the bar of excellence and as ICAZ, it is something we are proud of. These results augments the institute’s strategy whose focus goal is to grow the ICAZ membership while maintaining quality and growing influence,” he said.
Mr Nyajeka said Chartered Accountant Zimbabwe is a reputable qualification that is internationally recognised. — Wires.
