Chaseyama scoops Matenda U14 soccer trophy

CHASEYAMA Primary School of Hot Springs won the second edition of the Matenda Under-14 soccer tournament at a colourful event held at Hot Springs in Chimanimani district recently.

A total of five schools participated namely Hot Spring, Chakohwa, Nechitimba, Mashonjowa and the winner, Chaseyama.

Matenda Tourney was founded and is sponsored by Clifford and Sharon Matenda. It started in 2014 and was specifically designed for Under 14 soccer boys.

They started it as a family event in 2014. They went on to involve other villagers until they came out with the idea of starting a soccer tourney.

Sharon said that their main aim is to develop youngsters who have the talent and passion for soccer.

“We are a bit far from the city so we cannot participate in most activities in the city. By starting this tournament, we know we will raise great and talented soccer stars,” said Sharon.

All the teams are doing very well and Chaseyama School has won the tournament for the second time. — Manica Post.
