Chatunga Mugabe and accomplice expected in court over attempted murder

Chatunga Mugabe the son of the late former president Robert Mugabe and another accomplice are expected to appear at the Alexandra Magistrate Court, in Johannesburg, South Africa on charges of attempted murder following a shooting of an employee at the Mugabe’s residence on Thursday.

 

According to the law he should initially appear in court within the 48 hours that is between Friday and Saturday following his arrest on Thursday.

 

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng confirmed that two men who were initially taken in for questioning have now been formally arrested and are expected to appear before the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder.

 

According to the police the 23-year-old man was shot and critically injured.

 

So far the police managed to recover spent cartridges at the scene and they are allegedly yet to find the firearm used in the shooting.

 

 

“The police will be investigating a case of attempted murder after a 23-year-old man was shot on 19 February 2026 at Hyde-Park,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhuwi in a statement.

 

“According to information at hand, the victim is an employee at this residence and has been taken to hospital.

 

“The K9 unit, Bramley station detectives and Forensic Crime Scene Management are processing the scene and two men aged 28 and 33 years have been taken in for questioning. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage and police investigations are underway”.
