SEASONED coach Benson Chauke says honouring top performers is important as it motivates them to keep going.
Chauke made the remarks after receiving the Senior Coach of the Year accolade at the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe 2025 Excellence Awards held at Bindura University of Science Education over the weekend.
The awards to celebrate excellence, saw the association honouring athletes, coaches, officials, provinces and corporate partners.
“I am happy to the recipient this year. But the recognition of people who have worked hard, and are rewarded, gives them the motivation to want to continue to work hard, even harder in the following seasons,” he said.
“But I think this award is not for me but all those coaches that are working with the kids out there, some with limited resources, others trying to find their way, its an encouragement to say there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“The act alone, it’s enough to motivate us as coaches.”
NAAZ brought back the awards that had been shelved for more than 20 years last year in January when honouring top performers for 2023.
They then cancelled the 2024 edition due to financial constraints.
However, NAAZ president Tendayi Tagara said the awards are back for good.
