Dynamos vice chairman Vincent Chawonza says he is on a mission to professionalise local football through adoption of sports science over antiquated administration methods prevailing on the domestic scene.

Chawonza believes the integration of junior and senior teams has started producing results at Dynamos where junior players like Elton Chikona continue to shine. Chikona is currently undergoing trials in Spain.

In the build-up to the Harare Derby at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday, the Dynamos Under-14s took on the BN Academy in a curtain raiser, a return to DeMbare of the old.

Chawonza, who pledged to bring professionalism to the biggest club in the country when he was appointed just before the season commenced, believes Dynamos will set a template for professionalism in Zimbabwean football.

“I am a man on a mission because if you don’t have a reason, or a purpose, and a vision to live for, you better die as you are doing nothing in any organisation,” said Chawonza.

“So I came with purpose and to achieve certain things and we are happy that actually we are on course to achieve those things.

“The mission is to clean football and we want to provide a template for the whole football fraternity on things to copy. I haven’t shied away from saying Highlanders are organised than many clubs in terms of administration though I bleed blue.

“The way they do their elections, putting audited financial accounts on a billboard and having all stakeholders in the same room reading accounts on the wall, that’s what we want to see in football.

“So you will find out that the mission is to clean our football, be scientific, to be modern, and to play football here as it is played in London, to be professional and the ultimate goal is all about football.”

He revealed that peace is now prevailing in their camp following a volatile period where coach Herbert Maruwa was sent packing while former manager Richard Chihoro and assistant coach Murape Murape were reassigned.

‘’There were things we were doing that were not progressive there were a number of anti-football elements.

“We just adjusted a few things and you can see the results are coming our way now as we are in the title race.

“Coach Maruwa has surrendered all the club’s property.  We reached a mutual agreement with him which both parties agree and are happy with. We are moving forward and we are also paying his dues.

“Mangombe is not going to remain on an interim basis. The decision has to be made by the club board and the executive.”
