The Masvingo Ladies’ Circle 4 and Round Table 11 have pledged to help establish income-generating projects worth more than $110 000 to sustain the Mucheke Old People’s Home in 2018.
The plan emerged during a recent ceremony where the two organisations handed over Christmas donations at the home. The groups donated groceries and toiletries worth $1 000. Speaking during the presentation, Masvingo Round Table 11 secretary Mr Craig Chalky said the groups worked together to come up with the donations and they had also raised funds to cater for income-generating projects that were sustainable.
“We have raised $110 000 for the projects,” he said. “It is quite manageable that the group is small, so we have more sustainable projects for each group. They cannot rely on donations as they come here and there, but projects will keep them sustainable for a long period.”
Chairperson for Ladies’ Circle 4, Ms Lucy Diyo said the groups were targeting charitable organisations and they chose the Mucheke Old People’s Home for the partnerships. “We chose you to be our partners in this project and we have worked with our sister group to come up with these donations,” she said. According to the Mucheke Old People’s Home administrator Mr Joseph Bandawe, the home caters for 18 people — 10 females and eight males. Mr Bandawe expressed gratitude for the donations.
