IN a major boost for service delivery in Chegutu Town, councillors have received motorbikes as part of the Government’s drive to improve coverage of every ward.

Chegutu West legislator Cde Shacky Timburwa handed over the motorbikes to 16 councillors in the town.

The remaining four motorbikes will help boost operations at the municipality.

Chegutu mayor Rydes Machekera hailed the Government for helping councillors serve residents better.

“This is a welcome development that will help to serve our residents in every corner of their wards better,” said Cllr Machekera.

“This also motivates councillors to perform better in their wards and fulfil expectations of residents and meet Government service delivery targets.”

Cde Timburwa said President Mnangagwa had followed up on his promises to ensure councils deliver on their mandate

“President Mnangagwa has ensured that every year carries a theme with deliverables attached to councils and expectations of residents,” said Cde Timburwa.

“We have seen councillors getting motorbikes as a way of enhancing service delivery and ensuring that they are also motivated. This is highly commendable.”

Town clerk Mr Jacob Chikuruwo commended the Government for facilitating the procurement of the motorbikes.

“We are thankful to the Government for approving that we get the councillors motorbikes as part of improving their conditions of service,” he said.

“This will go a long way in ensuring coverage of every ward, making flow of information between the council, the residents and management easier.”

Councillor Catrisher Machingura said the motorbikes would motivate councillors to work harder and deliver on their mandate.

“We are happy as councillors that the Government values our contribution and is prepared to make our lives better,” said Clr Machingura.
