Chegutu installs 5k water meters

The Chegutu Municipality has started installing 5 000 convectional water meters to replace the old and fault-ridden meters that are being used in residential and commercial buildings.

The move is expected to boost council’s revenue inflows as the local authority had been forced to charge fixed rates that could be way below actual bills.

The move is also expected to plug water leakages as council seeks to effectively manage the flow of the precious liquid.
A firm contracted to install the water meters is already on the ground, with installation process underway.

In an interview, Chegutu Town Clerk Mr Alex Mandigo said council had resolved to replace convectional meters, which were giving false readings.
“In some residential areas such as Riffle Range, ZMDC houses and Kaguvi Phase 2 and 3, they receive water regularly, but the metering system is no longer reliable.”
