MDC-Alliance has fired Chegutu mayor Councillor Mr Henry Muchatibaya and suspended six other councillors with immediate effect for defying its directive to elect its preferred candidate as mayor last month.

He was also advised to relinquish the mayoral post to his deputy, Mr Maphios Shumba.
MDC-Alliance provincial chairman Mr Ralph Magunje advised Mr Muchatibaya of his dismissal in a letter dated October 15, 2018. According to the letter, Mr Magunje ordered Clr Muchatibaya to pay a $300 fine over a period of three months from the month of receipt of his allowances. He also announced that Clr Muchatibaya had been removed from all his party positions. Clr Muchatibaya confirmed having received the letter, but, however, refused to be drawn into discussing the case.
