Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) has fined Chegutu Pirates FC and G&T Mining FC US$2 500 each and ordered them to play upcoming matches behind closed doors following crowd trouble in their 1-1 draw at Pfupajena Stadium on August 26.
Chegutu Pirates, who were the home side, will play their Match-Day 30 and 32 fixtures in an empty stadium, while G&T Mining will serve its one-match stadium ban during their Match-Day 31 fixture.
The sanctions follow a review by the NRSL after both clubs submitted formal correspondence over the match.
The league said it considered the referee’s report, the match commissioner’s report and relevant provisions of the NRSL Rule Book 2026 before reaching its determination.
“Both Chegutu Pirates FC, as the home team, and G&T Mining FC have been formally reprimanded for failure to provide adequate security and for failure to control their respective supporters,” the league said in a statement.
The US$2 500 fines are due within seven days of the clubs receiving their respective letters of reprimand.
The NRSL also confirmed that the 1-1 result will stand, despite the incidents that occurred during the match.
According to the league, decisions made by the match referee are final and cannot be challenged through a protest under FIFA Laws of the Game and NRSL Rule 35.8.
“The result of Chegutu Pirates FC 1-1 G&T Mining FC stands,” the League said.
The league confirmed that disorder involving supporters from both clubs occurred during the fixture, stressing that clubs are responsible for the conduct of their players, officials and supporters in terms of NRSL Rule 20.3.
Both clubs have also been ordered to submit written security and supporters’ conduct plans for all their remaining fixtures in the 2026 season within seven days.
The NRSL condemned the incidents, warning clubs to take greater responsibility for match-day security and supporter behaviour.
“The league condemns all acts of violence and hooliganism and reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of all NRSL matches,” reads the communique.
