Chegutu Municipality is suing David Whitehead (Private) Limited over outstanding rates to the tune of $463 989. The local authority, through its lawyers Warara & Associates, is claiming the principal debt plus interest.

Chegutu is also seeking an order for costs against the textile firm. David Whitehead owns a property in Chegutu and over the years, the company has not been paying rates to the local authority. The company’s account with council was billed but no payment was effected.

“The plaintiff’s claim against defendant is for the payment of $463 989,04 being an amount due for rates in respect of its property in Chegutu. Despite being served with a demand to settle the account being account number 5000082400, the defendant has failed or neglected to pay the amount due,” reads the papers.
