The US$40 000 sports tournament is the brainchild of Ngezi South constituency House of Assembly member and former Ngezi High School headboy Bright Matonga.
“This is good for school children as they have managed to interact and it gives them exposure,” said Matonga.
“The tournament has grown, we used to take a few schools on board but now we have stretched to far away places like Kadoma.
“We are also grateful to the sponsors, Zimplats, who will be on board for the next two years. I was very impressed with the talent I saw today and we are looking forward to organise a Ngezi Select team and introduce girls’ soccer as well,” Matonga said.
Ngezi Barracks won the boys’ volleyball tournament as they beat St Michael’s by two straight sets in the final. The hosts, Ngezi High, won the girls’ edition of the volleyball tournament when they edged Chemukute in the final.Ngezi barracks won the netball tournament when they beat Nyika 15-13 in the final. The winners took home US$300 while the runners up pocketed US$250.
Constance Kazingizi was voted player of the tournament for netball.
