THE Zimbabwe national cricket side, the Chevrons, are set to play Sri Lanka and Namibia as part of their ICC Twenty-20 World Cup warm-up matches in Australia next month.
The Dave Houghton-coached team are in Group B of the fiesta which begins on October 16 with an interesting fixture pitting both Zimbabwe’s warm-up opponents Namibia and Sri Lanka in Geelong.
Zimbabwe will face Ireland, Scotland and West Indies in their group starting with Ireland on October 17.
But, they will look to perfect their act with a date against tricky sides Sri Lanka and Namibia in warm-up games which will not carry official T20 International status.
The ICC yesterday revealed the Zimbabweans come up against the Sri Lankans on October 10 before they play fellow African side Namibia three days later.
“ICC have announced the warm-up fixtures for all 16 teams ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October.
“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up matches will be held in Melbourne and Brisbane for all 16 teams. The First Round teams will play their warm-up fixtures between October 10 and 13 with matches to be divided between the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Junction Oval,” said ICC in a statement.
“The teams that qualified to play the Super 12 round directly will play their warm-up games in Brisbane on October 17 and 19.
“The first warm-up fixture is between West Indies and UAE at the Junction Oval on October 10.
“Scotland then take on Netherlands and Sri Lanka play Zimbabwe in the two other games on the same day at the same venue.
“Hosts and reigning champions Australia play their first and only warm-up game against India on October 17 at The Gabba. India, though, are also due to play New Zealand two days later at the same venue.”
Zimbabwe open their T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland on October 17 before they play West Indies two days later and conclude their group schedule against Scotland on October 21.
Should Zimbabwe win their group, they will progress to the Super 12 Group 2 where they will face Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Group A runners-up.
