ZIMBABWE finished day two on a high note despite a brilliant game-changing 118-run first wicket partnership between Bangladesh’s opening duo of Shadman Islam and Anamul Haque and another solid partnership for the second wicket stand on Tuesday.
Day two of the second and final Test match of the series ended with the Tigers on 291/7, leading by 64 runs courtesy of Islam’s second Test century and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim’s handy 40 runs.
The Chevrons, who resumed the day on 227/9 were bowled out with the first ball of the first over with Taijul Islam getting Blessing Muzarabani caught behind for two runs to finish with figures of 6/60 in 27.1 overs.
Bangladesh began their innings with the bat strongly and after the opening partnership was broken by Wellington Masakadza, who had Haque caught for 39 runs, Mominul Haque and Shadman Islam had a partnership of 76 runs for the second wicket before the former was caught for 33 runs with the hosts now on 194/2.
The hosts began to collapse with Chevrons debutant, Vincent Masekesa doing most of the damage with the ball.
Masekesa finished the day with figures of 3/44 in 14 overs while Masakadza, Brian Bennett and Muzarabani picked up one wicket apiece.
Shadman Islam top scored for Bangladesh with 120 runs off 181 balls before he was trapped in front by Bennett.
Play resumes at 06.00 on Wednesday for the third day.
