THE Zimbabwe National Cricket team has embarked on a Keep Bulawayo Clean Campaign, picking litter as they wait to play their final matches in the Triangular series in the city.
The team, escorted by the police, yesterday picked litter from the Corner of Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street along Fifth Avenue up to George Silundika Street.
The team’s captain, Graeme Cremer, said the clean-up campaign is a player’s initiative that is part of the side’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
He said they have chosen to do the clean-up campaign in Bulawayo since they will be in the city for a week or two getting ready for their final matches which started on 19 November and will be ending on 27 November.
“We are conducting the clean-up campaign as a way of giving back to society. This is our second act of giving back to the society this year.
“Months back we raised funds and donated food to Matthew Rusike Children’s Home in Epworth. We are looking forward to undertake more Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives in different towns in Zimbabwe,” said Cremer.
National Cricket Team Public Relations Manager, Mr Darlington Majonga, said the clean-up campaign is a gesture meant to appreciate the support from the public.
“The National team initiated the clean-up as a way of appreciating the community’ support. We got help with the cleaning equipment from companies like Print Serve and Nemchem,” said Mr Majonga
