Cheziya chess team set for Egypt

AFTER they failed to make a dream trip to Kazakhstan for the World Schools Chess tournament recently, Cheziya High School chess students will have another opportunity to represent the country when they play in a tournament to be held in Egypt next month.

The team of five players will look to compensate for the World Schools Chess tournament disappointment after the Zimbabwe Chess Federation confirmed they had booked the team for an upcoming tournament in Egypt.

The Cheziya High School chess team drew sympathies from the cross-section of Zimbabweans after they missed a chance of a lifetime to represent the country at the World Schools Chess tournament in Kazakhstan recently, despite fervent efforts from multiple chess federations.

To finance the team’s trip to Egypt, the Zimbabwe Chess Federation are set to use the travel grant secured from their international organisation, FIDE, which was initially meant for the abortive trip to Kazakhstan.

However, the federation is still to get full reimbursement from the travel agent, who is reportedly playing hide and seek after bungling the trip to Kazakhstan. They have so far received US$7 500 from the total refund of US$10 000.
