Sons of the late great sungura icon, John Chibadura, are set to release a six-track album titled “Inguva” this month. The brothers – John (26), Simbarashe (28) and Knowledge (30) – have vowed to take over from where their father left with the backing of the Tembo Brothers.
Some of the songs on the forthcoming album include “Yeukawo”, “Rudo Chete”, “Kuroora” and “Ngwarai”.
The title track “Inguva” implies that everything has got its own time. The outfit has promised to deliver a mature and polished product.
“After a long time we are happy that we have reunited and put the past behind us to protect our father’s legacy.
“To our fans we say do not lose hope, we are working very hard on this project to give you a full package and we hope you will love it,” said Simbarashe.
The brothers were inspired to revive their father’s music by other late musicians’ sons who have been doing well.
“We were inspired by the likes of Peter Moyo, son to the late sungura maestro Tongai ‘Dhewa’ Moyo and Suluman Chimbetu who have been doing extremely well to please their fathers’ loyal fans.
“If they have been able to do it what can stop us from doing the same? Only the sky is the limit for us.”
Two former key members of the Tembo Brothers Roderick Chemudhara (guitarist) and Ishmael Chibango (drummer) have rejoined the band for the new album.
Chibadura fused rhumba, jit and reggae.
He rose to fame with his hit single “Upenyu Hwandinetsa” and went on to produce many other chart-topping hits.
He died on August 4, 1999 after releasing more than 25 albums.
