Chibuku Cup quarter-finals set for National Sports Stadium

THE giant National Sports Stadium in Harare will host the Chibuku Super Cup quarter-finals this weekend with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. According to the fixture list released by the Premier Soccer League yesterday, league and cup double chasing Chicken Inn and Chapungu will get the ball rolling at 1PM on Saturday before Triangle take on 2014 losing finalists Harare City at 3:30PM.

ZPC Kariba and How Mine will curtain raise the big match between defending champions FC Platinum and Dynamos. Chicken Inn booked their quarter-final berth by dismissing coal miners Hwange 2-0 at Luveve Stadium while Chapungu overcame Flame Lily 2-1. Harare City registered an emphatic 4-1 win over Buffaloes and ZPC Kariba progressed following a 4-1 penalty shootout win over Caps United after the match had ended 2-2 in regulation time.

How Mine also progressed through the penalty lottery, beating Highlanders 4-3 after a 1-1 stalemate in normal time. Defending champions FC Platinum chalked up a 2-0 win over Dongo Sawmill while DeMbare were 1-0 victors over Whawha. The Chibuku Super Cup is the most lucrative domestic knockout competition with the winners guaranteed $75,000. It also has the added benefit of representing Zimbabwe in the Caf Confederations Cup.

The losing finalists will pocket $50,000, losing semi-finalists $25,000 while losing quarter-finalists each pocket $15,000.

Sunday: ZPC Kariba v How Mine (1PM), FC Platinum v Dynamos (3:30PM)
