FORMER Castle Lager Premier League champions Chicken Inn have been drawn against in-form GreenFuel for the Chibuku Super Cup first round matches.
The Gamecocks, who won the league title in 2015, have been eluded by the county’s premier knock-out cup over the years.
They have often struggled in cup games but this time they are confident that they will do well.
The club’s board member responsible for marketing Trevor Jakachira said he was happy with the draw and is hopeful they will compete for the silverware.
“Ever since we came to the top flight we have been doing well, especially in the league, but the Chibuku Super Cup has remained our priority for years. We are happy to be facing GreenFuel and it will be a tough game as you know cup games are always unpredictable.
“We were expecting any opponent who was in the hat and the outcome was never going to change our perceptions. We are ready for them and we need to improve on our performances during the cup games.
“GreenFuel have been doing well in the league but we will not take that much into consideration but play the game as a final,” said Jakachira.
GreenFuel, who were represented by Patience Dube at the draw, did not bow down to Chicken Inn’s stature despite them being newcomers. Dube said they were ready for the tournament.
“We are doing well and we are looking forward to the game. The team has rejuvenated under Rodwell Dhlakama and I think this being a Cup game it is going to be more difficult.
“It will be our first year playing in the Chibuku Super Cup and we would like to leave a mark. We have faced several top flight teams and we have managed to stand toe to toe against them so this is not going to be a different ball game altogether. We have respect for our opponents but we would want to progress from the second round,” said Dube.
