CHICKEN Inn midfielder Michael Charamba is in Tanzanian training with Simba SC who have set base in Zanzibar for their pre-season camp.
The 2023 Soccer Star of the Year finalist is part of the Simba team that is in camp in Zanzibar.
Charamba played in an invitational cup game on Friday and is due to play another in a match organised to celebrate Independence by the Sultans of Oman.
Chicken Inn media liaison officer Nkululeko Nkala confirmed the player is at Simba and said no deal had been finalised as yet. “We can only comment when there is something tangible but as of now he is a Chicken Inn player,” said Nkala.
A Zimbabwe football agent who is attending the tournament confirmed that the boy was in Zanzibar and turning out for Simba in a tournament where several Tanzanian clubs are taking part.
Charamba renewed his contract at Chicken Inn recently and feels indebted to the Bulawayo side after they stood with him following a career threatening injury, which ruled him out of action for the better part of the 2022 league season.
He gave a good account of himself playing as a right wing midfielder for Chicken Inn last season and had a number of spectacular goals from outside the box.
In the event he leaves, Chicken Inn may need to go into the market to hunt for a replacement.
Chicken Inn are believed to have already clinched the signatures of Brighton Makopa, Kelly Shiyandindi and Mthokozisi Msebe ahead of the start of the new season.
Hwange captain Shiyandindi and striker Makopa are set to join from Chipangano while Msebe who has caught the eye of several clubs locally will join from Bulawayo Chiefs.
This past season, the 2015 league champions managed to post 11 wins, 16 draws and seven defeats in the process amassing 49 points, 17 adrift of eventual league winners Ngezi Platinum Stars.
As result, they finished in a disappointing seventh position though they were one of the title favourites at the start of the season.
For that reason, the Gamecocks have turned to veteran coach Joey “Mafero” Antipas who is reportedly set to bounce back to the Chicken Inn dugout this season as head coach.
The club is believed to have let go of head coach Prince Matore and his assistant Farai Tawarechera.
Striker Brian Muza who has his contract with Chicken Inn coming to an end on 31 December is said to be contemplating a move to Highlanders who may need a proven goalscorer after struggling to get goals last season.
