The Innscor Africa sponsored Bulawayo outfit are joint leaders with Shabanie Mine on 11 points, having conceded just a single goal and remain one of the four teams in the league yet to lose a match this season. The other teams are second placed Shabanie Mine, third placed Highlanders and Motor Action, who are on fourth place. Speaking to Chronicle Sport, Chicken Inn chairman, Lifa Ncube said victory was the only term in their vocabulary.
With an experienced skipper in Herbert Dick in defence and the improving by each outing Guide Goddard, the Adam Ndlovu coached outfit have surprised many. The defence though has to worry about Hardbody’s Michael Mageja and Alick Marime, the duo who condemned a highly fancied Hwange to a 2-0 defeat at the same venue.
Under a tactician in the form of Tavaka “Dread” Gumbo, Hardbody can spring a surprise and tore the form book apart, especially if they play to instructions.
However, the match of the weekend is probably the potentially explosive Dynamos and Hwange clash at Rufaro Stadium although focus will most likely be at Morris Depot and Mandava Stadium where a free scoring Highlanders invade the police base for a clash against Black Mambas while beleaguered FC Platinum coach Rahman Gumbo welcomes his Motor Action counterpart Joe Antipas tomorrow afternoon.
Gumbo is under enormous pressure to start collecting maximum points after getting just three points from a possible 12. On Tuesday, fans went ballistic following a 3-1 loss to Highlanders.
Another Bulawayo side, Quelaton will play host to Gunners at Luveve Stadium this afternoon hoping to register their second win on the trot following a 1-0 away win over Harare City last weekend. They are under caretaker coach Farai Sibanda after head coach Thulani Sibanda was shown the exit door following a string of poor results.
Resurgent Bulawayo giants Highlanders will go two points clear, at least for 24 hours depending on the Sunday matches results, if they beat Black Mambas.
Fireworks are expected on Sunday when Harare giants Dynamos play Hwange. During the past few years, the two sides have all given each other some torrid times and Sunday’s match could just be another explosive encounter.
