CHICKEN Inn have signed former Shooting Stars, Caps United and ZPC Kariba attacking midfielder Pride Tafirenyika and coach Joey Antipas has described him as a good ball player they need in their title defence.
Tafirenyika becomes Chicken Inn’s fifth pre-season signing after defender Teenage Hadebe, winger Physwell Madhazi and strikers Obidiah Tarumbwa and Moses Demera.
Chicken Inn are yet to decide on unknown 21-year-old former Zambia youth international striker Trust Gomezani Mkandawire, who has been training with the Gamecocks for the past two weeks.
Antipas said Tafirenyika would be a perfect replacement for some Gamecocks’ players that are likely to be snapped up by South African clubs following good performances in the Caf Champions League preliminary round against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Winger Edmore Chirambadare, striker Mitchelle Katsvairo and national team midfielder Tafadzwa Kutinyu are the players on the radars of some South African clubs.
“All teams worldwide bring in new players before the start of the season, which means others have to leave and that’s what we’re doing. We’ve to strengthen our side because there are high possibilities of us losing players that impressed during the Caf Champions League,” said Antipas.
“We’ve signed Pride Tafirenyika, who I believe is a good ball player, and his experience will count a lot in our quest to defend the league title. As for the Zambian striker, he has been training with us and we’re likely to make a decision this week,” said Antipas.
