CHICKEN Inn goalkeeper Pride Zendera is now a proud owner of a six-roomed house in Bulawayo’s high density suburb of Pelandaba West.
The shot stopper used his savings, while staying at his parents’ place in Tshabalala together with his wife Isabel Ndlovu and their three-year-old son, Keshawn.
He started the project in 2015.
“I made a first installment of the residential stand in 2015 and the full payment was made later after the stands in the area were fully serviced in 2017. It called for a lot of sacrifice and in March 2018 that is when the building process started after I got my signing on fees from Chicken Inn FC. I added my winning bonuses and salaries to push the project to roof level,” said the soft spoken Zendera.
“My parents came to our aid time and again until we finished the project. We moved to our new home on May 11 and we were accompanied to the place by my parents. On the day of moving in, we held an all-night prayer giving thanks to the Almighty,” the 28-year-old teetotaller said.
He said he had to change his lifestyle while some footballers went for the latest sneakers, phones and clothes.
Zendera said footballers can still realise their dreams of owning property by using their savings wisely.
He said footballers must change spending habits for them to benefit from their trade.
Chicken Inn secretary-general Tavengwa Hara said it was pleasing that Zendera has managed to provide shelter for his family using his football savings.
“As a club that is what we encourage. We need to see more of our players using their local monetary gains wisely. We have been experiencing hard times in the local game, but it is good to note that at such a tender age, Zendera with the help of his wife saw it fit to invest in such a valuable property,” said Hara.
Before joining Chicken Inn in 2014, Zendera played three seasons for Swaziland’s Moneni Pirates before joining Manzini Sundowns in 2012. — @FungaiMuderere
