ZPC Kariba new head coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa began work with his new club this week and says it feels good to be back in the trenches.
He believes it’s easier to coach at home than outside the country and is warming up to life in the resort town of Kariba.
The legendary gaffer will begin his journey with an away match against Triangle next weekend.
He was appointed during the current three-week Premiership break.
Chidzambwa says he has adjusted to life in Kariba.
The former Warriors coach returns to domestic coaching after a lengthy period, as in the last decade he has been mostly confined to the national team before leaving the country in 2009 to join Free State Stars in the South African Premiership.
“The players are quite willing to learn and we will teach each other what we know as I would also be learning from them,” said Chidzambwa, the most successful coach in the history of local football.
“There is a good working relationship at the club.
“I am actually enjoying coaching in the local league and football is the same whether it is the South African or Zimbabwean league.
“I enjoy coaching local players because they understand each other better. They listen and are disciplined, unlike those in a foreign country where you don’t know their culture and how they do things.
“At home you even have the liberty to use both languages, Shona and English.”
Chidzambwa said he has little knowledge of the players plying their trade in the domestic Premiership.
“Personally, I know very little about players in Zimbabwe at the moment, but I would love to beef up the squad with a couple of players,” he said.
“If you take up a new job you would want to win matches and get into a better position. But it takes a bit of time and philosophies differ.
“Each and every coach has a different belief, but when the players understand me it will definitely see something different at ZPC Kariba.
“You cannot get a team and change it, but it is a gradual process. They are a good team and they surprised me with the way they play football.”
Chidzambwa’s last coaching job was with South African Division One side Black Leopards in 2013.
ZPC Kariba are in 10th place with 15 points from 13 matches.
