GOKWE traditional leader Chief Chireya, born Henry Chidzivo, is assisting police with investigations into the alleged murder of a villager in his area, with three suspects having been arrested in connection with the case.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests, saying the chief was among those assisting investigators as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

“I can confirm that three suspects were arrested on allegations of murder and Chief Chireya is among those assisting police with investigations,” said Comm Nyathi.
He said investigations were ongoing following the alleged assault that reportedly preceded the villager’s death.

Sources said the deceased was allegedly forced into a vehicle driven by Chief Chireya, who was reportedly in the company of other unidentified people.

The villager was allegedly assaulted before being found dead at his hut, with sources reporting that he had sustained serious injuries suspected to have resulted from the attack.
Comm Nyathi said police would continue updating the public as investigations progressed.
“We will keep the nation fully informed on the developments as this matter is of clear public interest,” he said.

Police have not publicly disclosed further details about the circumstances of the alleged murder or the identities of the three suspects.
