Chief Justice Luke Malaba has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Honourable Justice Selo Masole Nare, who passed away last Saturday.
The Chief Justice described Justice Nare as a dedicated and esteemed jurist who left an indelible mark on Zimbabwe’s legal landscape.
Born on December 28, 1943, in Gwanda, Justice Nare began his career as a primary school teacher before joining the Ministry of Justice in 1973. He later earned his law degree and became a magistrate in 1981, rising through the ranks to serve as a regional magistrate, judge of the Administrative Court, and Labour Court judge until his retirement in 2013.
Chief Justice Malaba acknowledged Justice Nare’s significant contributions to the development of Zimbabwe’s jurisprudence, particularly in workers’ rights.
“His commitment to upholding justice and protecting fundamental human rights has inspired many in the legal fraternity,” he said.
The Chief Justice, who has himself had a distinguished career spanning over four decades, including serving as Deputy Chief Justice and Judge of the COMESA Court of Justice, expressed his deepest condolences to Justice Nare’s family, especially his wife and children.
As the Judicial Service Commission mourns the loss of Justice Nare, they remember his profound impact on countless lives and celebrate his life’s work, which has left a lasting legacy in Zimbabwe’s judicial system.
