BULAWAYO Chiefs forward Never Rauzhi has set himself a target of 17 goals for the season after a blistering start to the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign. The player has found the back of the net on three occasions this season. That includes one assist in four appearances.
Rauzhi, a prolific attacker who primarily operates as a left winger has shown he has the strength, pace and skill.
He told Zimpapers Sports Hub that this could be the season he makes a name for himself in the local league, having failed to raise the bar at Tenax and Triangle in the topflight league previously.
Last season at Triangle, he scored four goals in the entire campaign.
But, at Bulawayo Chiefs, the statistics could change in his favour. He is happy with how he has opened the season.
“I am pleased with how I have started the season. I am already on three goals and an assist. I am enjoying my stay at Chiefs so far and I hope that I continue with this form. It’s still early days in the league but if I continue like this I will certainly score a lot of goals. I have set myself a target of 17 goals. It will be a successful season for me if I get to those figures,” said Rauzhi.
Bulawayo Chiefs coach Thulani Sibanda believes Rauzhi is one of the best players in the local league.
“I saw his potential when I coached him at Triangle. He is a gifted young man who has got pace and skill and can keep the ball. He is also good in the air.
He has got every attribute of a good player. Right now he just needs to keep his head cool and he will go places,” said Sibanda.
Not much was expected from Bulawayo Chiefs this season after they lost almost all of their key players including skipper Malvin Mkolo, Billy Veremu, Kim Joe Sibanda, Ben Nyahunzvi, Felix Moyo, Mthokozisi Msebe, Ayanda Ncube, Mandla Gasela and goalkeeper Issah Ali among others.
New additions in the form of Rauzhi, Xolisani Moyo, Bukhosi Sibanda and goalkeeper Prosper Matutu have so far proven to be worthy replacements.
